Wolverine Notes
• Michigan has won seven straight games after a 65-50 win over No. 5 Indiana on Monday night (Jan. 31). U-M has relied on solid shooting and a staunch effort on the defensive end over the stretch. Michigan is averaging 74.7 points per game on 49.2 percent shooting from the floor. On the flip side, U-M has held six of its last seven opponents to fewer than 60 points. Over the spurt, the Michigan defense is allowing just 53.0 points per game on 34.8 percent shooting from the field. Michigan also has dominated the glass over the last seven, holding a +16.1 margin. The seven-game win streak ties the longest during conference play in program history. U-M ripped off seven straight during the 2018-19 season, winning its first seven games of February.
• Michigan came in at No. 6 in the Associated Press poll and entered the top five for the first time ever in the USA Today Coaches poll, coming in at No. 5. U-M has six wins over ranked opponents this season and is up to No. 11 in the NET rankings.
• Michigan is back at home after its Feb. 3 contest at Illinois was postponed due to weather. U-M is 11-0 at home this season, outscoring opponents by more than 20 points per game (77.3 ppg to 55.7 ppg). U-M has three players in double-figure scoring at home in Naz Hillmon (23.5 ppg, up from her season average of 20.2 ppg), Leigha Brown (14.1 ppg on 51.8 percent shooting) and Emily Kiser (10.4 ppg, up from her season average of 10.0 ppg).
• The game between Michigan and Iowa pits the Big Ten's top offense against its top defense. Iowa is leading the league in scoring at 84.2 points per game, while Michigan has the top scoring defense in the Big Ten at 58.1 points per game.
• The game will feature the two players who were named Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year in Naz Hillmon and Iowa's Caitlin Clark. Hillmon grabbed the honor by the media, with Clark tabbed by the coaches. They are two of six players in the Big Ten averaging at least 20.0 points per game this season. The duo also played together on the 2019 U19 USA Basketball squad that captured gold at the FIBA World Cup.
• Michigan has won seven straight games to move its Big Ten record to 10-1, its best record through 11 games in program history. All 10 of Michigan's wins in conference play have been by at least 12 points. It is the 10th time in school history that Michigan has won double-digit conference games. U-M is atop the Big Ten standings as one of two teams (Indiana) with just one conference loss.
• Michigan is first in the Big Ten in rebounding margin at +10.7 boards per game, going 17-0 when winning the battle on the glass after holding a 52-20 edge on No. 5 Indiana last time out. U-M leads the conference in combined opponent rebounds, giving up just 29.9 per game. The Wolverines are second in combined team rebounds, grabbing 40.6 caroms per contest. Michigan has two of the top eight rebounders in the Big Ten in Naz Hillmon (fifth, 8.8 rpg) and Emily Kiser (sixth, 8.5 rpg).
