
Michigan Set for Rivalry Contest at Michigan State on Thursday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (20-2, 11-1 Big Ten) is set for a rivalry showdown, heading to East Lansing to face Michigan State (12-10, 6-5 Big Ten) Thursday evening (Feb. 10) at the Breslin Center. The game is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
Wolverine Notes
• Michigan entered the top five of the Associated Press poll for the first time in program history this week, coming in at No. 4. U-M also came in at No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches poll after entering the top five last week at No. 5. The Wolverines are also No. 12 in the latest NET rankings from the NCAA.
• Michigan has won eight straight games after a 98-90 win over No. 21 Iowa (Feb. 6). U-M has relied on solid shooting and a staunch effort on the defensive end over the stretch. Michigan is averaging 77.6 points per game on 49.8 percent shooting from the floor. On the flip side, U-M has held six of the last eight opponents to fewer than 60 points. Over the spurt, the Michigan defense is allowing just 57.6 points per game on 36.1 percent shooting from the floor. Michigan also has dominated the glass over the last seven, holding a +16.3 margin. The eight-game winning streak is the longest during conference play in program history and the sixth-longest overall streak.
• Michigan and Michigan State are set to square off twice in the next two weeks, starting with this contest in East Lansing. U-M has won three straight against MSU, its longest streak since winning four in a row from Dec. 30, 1999-Jan. 2, 2002. Whitney Sollom's mother, Dianne (Hall), was a three-year letterwinner for the Spartans from 1991-93. She also wore No. 25.
• Naz Hillmon has 10 double-doubles on the season after going for 26 points and 10 rebounds against No. 21 Iowa (Feb. 6). She is now tied with Trish Andrew for the program lead with 44 career double-doubles. Hillmon also is closing in on becoming the fourth member of the 2,000-point club, needing 39 more points to reach the milestone.
• Michigan picked up its 20th win of the season last time out, getting a 98-90 win over No. 21 Iowa (Feb. 6). It is the 13th 20-win season in program history and the ninth under 10th-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico. It is the fastest a team has reached 20 wins, getting there in just 22 games.
• Michigan State (12-10, 6-5 B1G) is coming off a 71-60 loss at Minnesota (Feb. 6) after dropping a five-point decision to Maryland (Feb. 3). MSU is averaging 73.4 points per game on 44.5 percent shooting while allowing 66.8 points per game on 40.5 percent shooting. The Spartans have a pair of double-figure scorers in Nia Clouden (21.4 ppg) and Matilda Ekh (12.1 ppg).
