
Michigan Suffers First Loss of 2022 to Harvard

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13 University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell to the Harvard Crimson by a 14-9 count Saturday (March 12) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
The Wolverines' attack trio accounted for seven of U-M's nine goals on the day, with sophomore Michael Boehm leading the way with three goals and two assists (five points). Freshman Ryan Cohen added two goals and two assists, while junior Josh Zawada had two goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Jake Bonomi had two goals on 14 shots
Michigan's (7-1) offensive unit was able to convert on two of five extra-man opportunities on the afternoon, including two second-half goals from Cohen and Boehm that brought the halftime score to 6-4. A two-minute non-releasable penalty called on the Crimson late in the second quarter carried into the third but U-M was able to get as close as 6-5. Michigan had trouble finding the back of the net with a number of its 51 shots hitting the post.

With senior face-off man Nick Rowlett out, and expected back next week, sophomore Justin Wietfeldt went 15-of-25 at the dot and collected nine ground balls.
In goal, sophomore Shane Carr had 16 saves on 40 shots. Graduate student defender Jackson Zaugg led the defense with two caused turnovers to go along with two ground balls.
The Wolverines were held to single-digit goals for the first time this season, while a season-low four players accounted for goals in total.
Harvard (3-1) was led by the trio of Hayden Cheek, Sam King and Owen Gaffney, who each scored three goals on the afternoon. Kyle Mullin had 12 saves in goal for the Crimson.
Next up, the Wolverines will hit the road for their first ranked vs. ranked road matchup in program history, traveling to take on the No. 9-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday (March 19) at noon. The matchup will be broadcast nationally via ACC Network.
