ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For the first time in more than a decade, the University of Michigan men's track and field team will compete this Thursday through Saturday (April 28-30) at the prestigious Drake Relays in what will be its final regular-season road trip of the 2022 spring campaign.
In what will be Michigan's first Drake Relays appearance since 2010, Wolverines from all disciplines -- sprints, distance, jumps and throws -- will test themselves at one of America's oldest and most competitive meets.
This will likely be the last competition for Michigan's top contenders ahead of the postseason. The Big Ten Championships at Minnesota await on May 13-15.
The 112th edition of the Drake Relays gets underway Thursday at 5 p.m. CT with a distance-only session of racing, including the top sessions of the 3,000-meter steeplechase with All-American Christian Hubaker leading one of the deepest steeple corps in America, and the 5,000 meters with All-Americans Devin Meyrer and Tom Brady.
Friday is divided into two sessions, with Michigan competitors beginning in the early session at 11:45 a.m. CT and the evening session at 5:15 p.m. CT.
Among those competing in the early session are school record-holding Big Ten champion hurdler Joshua Zeller in the 110-meter hurdles prelims and the preliminaries of the 4x100 relay with All-American teammate Dubem Amene.
Amene is among the Michigan headliners in the evening session in the 400 meters. Also featured in the later program are All-Americans Tom Dodd and Nick Foster at 1,500 meters, and likely All-Americans Miles Brown and Cole Johnson as part of the 4x800 relay. Multiple-time Big Ten scoring high jumper Cassidy Henshaw leads the field event entries in the session.
Saturday's final session of action will include teams in the distance medley, sprint medley, 4x100 (pending advancement) and 4x400 relays, as well as potential finals in the 100 meters and 110-meter hurdles, with Zeller in the latter. Action for Michigan will begin at 12:24 p.m. CT and conclude just before 3 p.m. CT. Big Ten scorer Bera Ajala will also compete in the triple jump to headline the field events.
Runnerspace will carry live streams of the Drake Relays on its subscription streaming service. Runnerspace+ coverage will be blacked out Saturday at 1-3 p.m. CT, during which time fans can watch the meet on CBS Sports Network linear television and its online platform.
Live results at Drake will be provided through Primetime Timing.
Updates will be posted to the official Michigan track and field social media channels throughout the weekend.
