Michigan Collects Three Wins on Day One of Wisconsin Tri-Meet

MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving program completed the first day of the Wisconsin Tri-Meet at Soderholm Family Aquatic Center on Friday (Oct. 20).
At the end of day one, U-M leads Arizona, 134-65, and trails Wisconsin, 115-90.
The Wolverines grabbed two individual wins and nine total podium finishes in nine men's events.
U-M started the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay as the quartet of Jack Wilkening, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Gal Groumi and Bence Szabados combined to post a time of 3:13.03.
The sophomore pair of Jack Wilkening and Eitan Ben-Shitrit placed second and third, respectively in the 200-yard backstroke. Wilkening touched at 1:46.40 and Eitan Ben-Shitrit logged a mark of 1:46.93.
Szabados added to his strong performance with a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 19.82. Ansel Froass secured second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.13.
Tyler Ray added to Michigan's event win total by logging the top mark in the 100-yard butterfly at 47.62. Groumi finished just behind Ray, touching the wall at 47.68.
Ben-Shitrit tallied his second podium finish of the evening with a second-place time of 3:53.43. In the 200-yard freestyle relay of Szabados, Groumi, Ray and Logan Zucker closed the first day of the tri-meet by registering a time of 1:19.81 good for second place.
In diving, Cameron Gammage had a strong performance, winning the one-meter dive with a score of 366.30 and placing second in the three-meter dive with a tally of 345.53.
U-M will wrap up the Wisconsin Tri-Meet on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 9:30 a.m. CT.
