
Wolverines to Host In-State Rival MSU in Regular-Season Finale

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (8-7, 2-5 Big Ten) will face off against in-state rival Michigan State (3-11, 1-6 Big Ten) for its regular-season finale at 6 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 27) at Phyllis Ocker Field. The contest will be streamed live on B1G+

• The Wolverines will honor six seniors -- Serena Brimacombe, Katelyn Clarke, Gillian Dumont, Rosie Hope, Isabella Palde and Anouk Veen -- prior to Friday's game. Over the last four years, this senior class has contributed to a 53-21 record, a Big Ten regular-season and two Big Ten Tournament crowns.
• The Wolverines scored 11 goals against Central Michigan last Sunday (Oct. 22) with nine different goal scorers. It was the Wolverines' largest goal output since scoring 12 against Ball State on Sept. 10, 2021. Michigan put up 50 total shots and 23 corners in the game.
• Senior Kate McLaughlin scored three goals against CMU for her first collegiate multi-goal game. She upped her season total to six goals, tying her career high, and now shares the team lead with freshman Kelsey Reviello, who also tallied a second-half marker at Central Michigan.
• Michigan did not allow a shot against in Sunday's game. Junior/sophomore Caylie McMahon and senior Gillian Dumont combined for the shutout in the cage -- Michigan's fifth of the season. It was the first time U-M held an opponent without a shot since Ball State in 2021.
• McMahon has averaged 1.46 goals allowed this season and has contributed to five shutout wins this season, including a 2-0 win in Big Ten play at Indiana (Sept. 29).
• Thirteen different Wolverine players have scored at least one goal this season, with 10 Wolverines accumulating multiple goals. Michigan has outscored its opposition 37-18. Newcomers have accounted for more than half (19-of-37) of the Wolverines' goals this season.
• All seven Michigan losses this season have come against ranked opponents, including two -- North Carolina (Aug. 25) and Iowa (Sept. 22) -- which were ranked No. 1 at the time of the meeting.
• Michigan State enters the weekend with a 3-11 record with six consecutive losses. Most recently, the Spartans lost 2-1 in double overtime to Miami (Ohio) last Sunday (Oct. 22). Ellie Rutherford and Emma O'Neill lead Michigan State with three goals each, while goalkeeper Cecila Charles owns a 4.74 goals-against average and .722 save percentage. Michigan owns a 47-25-6 record in the all-time series against Michigan State, including 12 straight wins dating back to 2015.
• Junior Abby Tamer will redshirt the 2023 season to train and compete with the USA Field Hockey Women's National Team in its bid to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. Tamer, a 2022 NFHCA All-West Region second team honoree who has accumulated 13 goals and nine assists over 39 games played and two seasons at Michigan, earned her first senior-level international cap and goal in June.
