ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (7-2, 0-0 Big Ten) wraps up a three-game road swing with the beginning of conference play, heading to Illinois (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten) for a Sunday afternoon (Dec. 10) contest at the State Farm Center. The game is set for 2 p.m. CST and will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan is wrapping up a three-game road swing at Illinois after defeating Harvard (Dec. 2) before dropping its last contest at Toledo (Dec. 6). U-M is 1-1 in true road games this season and 3-2 away from Crisler Center after going 2-1 at the Battle 4 Atlantis.
• Michigan is playing one conference game before turning its attention back to non-conference action. U-M still has games against Miami (Ohio), Florida and Florida A&M remaining before league action begins in earnest at the end of the month. U-M has won its last three conference openers.
• There is a connection between Michigan and Illinois, with Laila Phelia and Makira Cook playing together in high school. The duo played together at Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, winning the 2019 Division I state title together.
• For the first time in her collegiate career, Greta Kampschroeder will play in her home state of Illinois. Kampschroeder, the first McDonald's All-American in program history, starred at Naperville North. This is the first of two trips to the Land of Lincoln for U-M this season as the Wolverines play at Northwestern on Feb. 24.
• Illinois and Michigan have not faced each other much over the last few seasons, playing just three times since the beginning of the 2019-20 season -- all three U-M wins. The Wolverines knocked off Illinois in the teams' lone meeting last year, getting a 74-57 win at Crisler Center. This is Michigan's first trip to the State Farm Center since a 70-56 U-M victory on Feb. 17, 2019. There is only one Wolverine who has played at Illinois, with Lauren Hansen playing in Champaign during her time at Missouri.
• The Wolverines have won the last seven games against Illinois. In the last 20 games between the teams, U-M is 18-2 against the Illini.
• Michigan is looking to bounce back after dropping its second game of the season last time out. U-M is 1-0 after a loss this season, rebounding from dropping the championship game at the Battle 4 Atlantis to No. 23 Ole Miss by getting an 80-44 win over Eastern Michigan. U-M went 7-2 last season after a loss.
• Michigan is averaging just 47.5 points per game in its two losses, while going for 79.4 points per game in its victories. In wins, Michigan is shooting 47 percent from the floor and 36.6 percent from three-point range while shooting below 30 percent from both in losses.
• U-M returns home to Crisler Center next time out, hosting Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.
