Wolverines Use Balanced Attack to Complete Sweep of Nebraska

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team fell behind by six points in the opening minutes of the third quarter before ending the period on a 17-7 run to regain control en route to an 80-75 win over Nebraska on Sunday (Feb. 12) at Crisler Center. With the win, Michigan completed the season sweep of the Huskers.
Leigha Brown tallied her fifth double-double of the season, her third point-assist variety, with 21 points, 10 assists, five boards and three steals in 35 minutes of action. Emily Kiser turned in 15 points and five boards, with Maddie Nolan (13) and Jordan Hobbs reaching double figures as well. Alyssa Crockett scored a career-best seven points on 3-for-3 shooting, with Chyra Evans (6) and Elise Stuck (5) contributing to 19 bench points for the Wolverines.
Michigan led by as many as 10 points in the opening half, hitting the break with a 36-31 lead. The Huskers opened the third quarter on a 15-4 run, grabbing a 46-40 lead on the Wolverines with 5:04 remaining in the period.
U-M got a bucket from Hobbs on the next possession to jumpstart a 17-7 U-M spurt over the rest of the quarter. Kiser made a layup and Brown hit a jumper in the lane, tying the game at 46 just over a minute and a half later with 3:26 on the clock.
Crockett pushed Michigan back in front with a triple in the corner, but Nebraska tied it back up at 51 on a three-point play with 2:10 left in the frame. Brown, Crockett and Kiser each scored on Michigan's final three possession to give the home team a 57-53 lead after 30 minutes.
Michigan never trailed in the fourth quarter, grabbing a 68-59 lead on a Stuck corner triple with 4:58 left in the contest. U-M's lead grew to double digits in the final quarter, but Nebraska hung around as Michigan missed five free throws down the stretch.
Four straight free throws from Nolan and Brown in the final 25 seconds of the contest kept Nebraska at bay, as the Huskers scored right before time expired to provide the final five-point margin.
U-M is back in action on Thursday (Feb. 16), traveling to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers at 8:30 p.m.
