SPARKS, Md. -- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association named junior Justin Wietfeldt a third-team All-American, and senior Josh Zawada and junior Michael Boehm as honorable mention All-Americans, the association announced Thursday (May 25).
The USILA recognition for Wietfeldt is the first in program history. He ended his junior season with the fourth-highest winning percentage in the country (.645), winning 149-of-231 faceoffs on the campaign. The mark is the best in program history. The New Canaan, Conn., native also had 95 ground ball pickups on the year, averaging 5.59/contest. A key part of the top-ranked faceoff duo in the country, he has won at least 50 percent of faceoffs in 15 of 17 contests on the year.
Boehm set a new school record for goals in a season with 45. He also led the team in points with 73, in addition to ranking third in assists (28). He was named the MVP of the Big Ten Tournament, scoring five goals in the championship game against Maryland (May 6) and 10 across three tourney games. He also earned All-America honorable mention nods from US Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse.
Zawada ranked second on the team in goals (36), assists (29) and points (65). His average of 3.82 points/game ranked third in the Big Ten and 39th nationally, and he converted on 35 percent of his shots to rank No. 12 in the league. He marked six hat tricks on the season and has a points scored streak of 51 games -- one of the longest in the NCAA. He previously earned All-America accolades from US Lacrosse Magazine.
The honors also mark the first time U-M has had multiple honorees on the list in the same season. Previously, Zawada (2022) and Brent Noseworthy (2018) were selected as honorable mention.
