
Michigan to Kick Off Dual-Match Action with Pair in Oklahoma

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (0-0) heads to the state of Oklahoma this weekend to kick off dual-match action. U-M will face No. 6 Oklahoma State (0-0) on Friday evening (Jan. 19) at at 6 p.m. CST in Stillwater and wrap the weekend with a noon CST match at No. 13 Oklahoma (2-0) on Sunday (Jan. 21).
Notes
• U-M is starting its dual-match season on the road for the first time in three seasons, heading to Oklahoma to face No. 6-ranked Oklahoma State (0-0) and No. 13-ranked Oklahoma (2-0) in a pair of weekend matches. Oklahoma will host No. 14-ranked Ohio State prior to playing Michigan.
• Michigan faced Oklahoma at the Varsity Tennis Center last season, recording a 5-2 win over the Sooners, who were ranked No. 4 at the time. U-M and Oklahoma State played twice last season, coming in the ITA Kick-Off in Stillwater and a regularly-scheduled match at the VTC. Michigan swept the season series from OSU, winning 4-2 during the Kick-Off and 6-1 at home.
• Michigan's non-conference schedule includes this ranked duo, along with No. 8 Pepperdine, No. 9 NC State, No. 10 Florida, No. 12 Virginia and No. 22 USC.
• Michigan compiled a 71-33 record in singles action during tournament play, paced by a trio with double-figure wins in Kari Miller (15-3), Julia Fliegner (12-6) and Piper Charney (11-5).
• U-M has four ranked singles players in No. 10 Miller, No. 39 Fliegner, No. 47 Lily Jones and No. 82 Gala Mesochoritou. Miller and Jaedan Brown combine to form the No. 8-ranked doubles pair after going 9-3 in tournament action as a pair. New individual rankings are slated to be released on Feb. 7.
• With a pair of wins over the weekend at the Michigan Invitational, Miller recorded the 80th win of her singles career. She is 80-31, making her the 22nd Wolverine to reach the 80-win mark. Her .721 winning percentage comes in at No. 9 on the career list.
• Michigan is coming off a 25-4 season in 2022-23, sweeping the Big Ten championship and tournament titles. The Wolverines advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.
• The Wolverines are back at home next weekend (Jan. 26-27), hosting the ITA Kick-Off for the first time since the 2019-20 season. Joining U-M at the event will be Utah, Purdue and Arkansas.
