Big Ten Defensive Payer of the Week (March 26) -- Graduate student Beau Pederson, a unanimous preseason All-American, had his best all-around game as a Wolverine against No. 7 Maryland (March 23). The defensive midfielder had two points (one goal, one assist) as well as three ground ball pickups and a pair of caused turnovers in a 12-11 win over the Terrapins. The plaudit is the first of Pederson's U-M career. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Specialist of the Week (March 26) -- Senior Justin Wietfeldt went 15-of-24 (63 percent) at the faceoff dot, winning the majority of his draws against Maryland's Luke Wierman who entered the contest as the top faceoff man in the country. He also collected 10 ground balls as U-M held a strong possession advantage throughout the contest. He ranks No. 5 in the country in ground balls per game (9.33). This is the second Specialist of the Week honor of Wietfeldt's career, with the last coming on May 4, 2023. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week (Feb. 20) -- Senior attackman Michael Boehm was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a two-game week with seven points each in contests against Canisius (Feb. 13) and Hobart (Feb. 17). The 14 points were propped up by a five-goal, two-assist effort against the Golden Griffins, and the stat line was flipped against the Statesman with a two goals and a career-high five assists. The Rocky River, Ohio, native has 189 career points (108g, 81a), and is 11 away from becoming the second Wolverine to reach 200 in a career. This is his third career Big Ten weekly honor, taking home an offensive award during the 2022 season and freshman honor in 2021. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Players to Watch (Feb. 1) -- Sophomores Carson Billig, Bo Lockwood and Hunter Taylor were named Big Ten Players to Watch.
Billig worked his way into the U-M defensive midfield unit and proved to be a key piece in the rotation as a true freshman. Overall, he played in 16 games with six ground balls, with a pair coming in U-M's victory over Maryland (April 1). He also caused four turnovers on the season.
Lockwood will see an increased role as an option at attack and midfield as a sophomore. Last season, he took part in 10 games with two goals and an assist (three points).
Taylor earned the starting job during U-M's magical postseason run last year, leading the Wolverines to a pair of wins in the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments. Overall, he saw action in 11 games with six starts. His overall stat line of an 11.20 goals-against average was coupled with a save percentage of .510 and 90 total saves. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Preseason Poll (Feb. 1) -- Michigan was selected to finish fourth by the conference's coaches. Johns Hopkins tops the poll, followed by Penn State and Maryland. Ohio State was picked fifth, while Rutgers was tabbed to come in at No. 6. » Big Ten Release
Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America (Jan. 17) -- Graduate student Beau Pederson (first team), senior Michael Boehm (third team) and senior Justin Wietfeldt (honorable mention) were all named to the publication's preseason All-America team. » Inside Lacrosse Release
USA Lacrosse Preseason All-America (Jan. 17) -- Beau Pederson , Justin Wietfeldt, Michael Boehm and Christian Ronda were named to the USA Lacrosse Preseason All-America list.
Pederson tops the list with a first team nod, while Wietfeldt, the first returning All-American in program history, was named to the second team. Boehm was named to the third team, while Ronda was named honorable mention.
Boehm, last season's leading scorer, enters the 2024 campaign 41 points shy of becoming the program's all-time leading scorer, and one goal from 100 in his U-M career. Wietfeldt owns a career win percentage of 62 and is one of the top returning specialists in the country after winning 64.5 percent and ranking No. 4 nationally. Both Pederson and Ronda are in their first seasons in maize and blue after transferring from Princeton.
