
Wolverines to Host Illinois on Sneakerhead Night

New this year, purchases on the day of the game at the venue will be cashless and contactless in an effort to contribute to a safer game day environment and improve the fan experience by increasing the speed of service and decreasing wait times. Purchases may be made with debit or credit cards. Cash will not be accepted.
Following a successful rollout at Michigan Stadium this fall, a new Weapons Detection System has been implemented at Crisler Center. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to ensure a smooth entry into Crisler.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (14-7, 5-4 B1G) will return to home action on Wednesday (Jan. 31), wrapping up the season series with Illinois (9-10, 3-6 B1G) at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear their best sneakers to the game as part of Sneakerhead Night, with multiple pair of Jumpman shoes given away throughout the game.
Notes:
• Michigan and Illinois are wrapping up their season series, the first time U-M is facing an opponent for the second time this season. Illinois is one of five teams that U-M will face twice, along with Michigan State, Rutgers, Ohio State and Nebraska.
• Michigan recorded the sixth-best margin of victory in a Big Ten game in program history with the 36-point win and was one off a program record with 13 three-pointers in the 84-48 win over Illinois on Dec. 10. U-M had four players in double figures, paced by a career-best 22 points from Jordan Hobbs on the strength of four triples on 4-for-5 shooting from deep. Lauren Hansen and Laila Phelia each turned in 14 points, with Chyra Evans going for 10 points in the first start of her career. Michigan turned the ball over just six times in the contest with 20 assists. U-M has won eight straight against Illinois.
• There is a connection between Michigan and Illinois, with Phelia and Makira Cook playing together in high school. The duo played together at Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, winning the 2019 Division I state title together.
• Michigan has hit the midway point of Big Ten action, holding a 5-4 record after nine games. U-M is one of seven teams to have a winning record in conference play and is tied with Nebraska and Michigan State in fifth place.
• Michigan is looking for a bounce back after dropping a road contest at Michigan State last time out (Jan. 27). U-M is 5-1 following a loss this season, most recently getting a 56-50 win at Rutgers (Jan. 21) in the first of back-to-back conference wins.
• Michigan is 9-1 this season at Crisler Center after recording a 79-77 overtime win over Maryland on Jan. 24. U-M is averaging 78.5 points per game on 45.8 percent shooting at Crisler while holding opponents to 55.8 points per game on 38.8 percent shooting.
• Phelia became the 31st Wolverine to reach the 1,000-point mark in Michigan's win over Maryland (Jan. 24), finishing with 14 points for 1,003 in her illustrious career in the Maize and Blue. Michigan now has four 1,000-point scorers on its roster in Phelia, Elissa Brett (1,498), Hansen (1,321) and Taylor Williams (1,103).
• Michigan has had 10 players record a double-figure scoring game thus far, with Phelia scoring at least 10 points in 17 games. Hansen (13), Hobbs (10), Brett (5), Evans (4), Taylor Williams (4), Cameron Williams (4), Greta Kampschroeder (1), Macy Brown (1) and Alyssa Crockett (1) have each reached double figures in scoring this season.
