
Wolverines Set to Host No. 4 NC State, Columbia at VTC

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (8-3) completes a three-match homestand this week, hosting No. 4 NC State (8-1) on Thursday (Feb. 22) and Columbia (9-1) on Friday (Feb. 23) at the Varsity Tennis Center. Both matches are slated for a 5 p.m. start.
Admission is free to all matches at the VTC.
Notes
• Through 11 matches, Michigan has already faced nine ranked opponents. U-M is 6-3 against top-25 teams this season, with No. 4 NC State marking Michigan's 10th ranked foe of the season. Michigan still has matches left against No. 9 Ohio State and No. 10 Pepperdine.
• Michigan and NC State are squaring off for the second time in 11 days after U-M got a 4-1 win over the Wolfpack in the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Feb. 11. NC State has not played since falling to the Wolverines at the national event. Michigan won the doubles point and got singles wins from Julia Fliegner, Lily Jones and Piper Charney in the 4-1 win.
• NC State is the third team that Michigan is playing for a second time already this season. U-M has faced Oklahoma State twice and swept a pair of matches from Virginia.
• Michigan is 7-0 when winning the doubles point this season and 1-3 without securing the match's first point. U-M rallied for a 4-2 win over Cal in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship (Feb. 9) after dropping the doubles point. Reese Miller and Charney are 6-2 as a pair during dual matches to lead the Wolverines.
• The Wolverines are 4-0 all-time against NC State after a 4-1 win over the Wolfpack earlier this season. The teams had not faced each other since the 1999-2000 season before meeting twice this season.
• Michigan is 1-0 all-time against Columbia, getting a 5-2 win over the Lions on March 13, 2022 at the VTC.
• U-M has four ranked singles players in No. 9 Kari Miller, No. 18 Fliegner, No. 57 Jones and No. 124 Gala Mesochoritou. Miller and Jaedan Brown combine to form the No. 5-ranked doubles pair and are 5-3 at No. 1 to start dual-match action.
• Miller won the race to 20 singles wins on the season, boasting a 21-7 overall record. All six of Michigan's lineup regulars have reached double-figure wins for the season, with Miller leading the way in total wins and Mesochoritou pacing the team in winning percentage at .882 (15-2).
• Michigan heads west to Hawai'i for a spring break training trip after these two matches at the VTC. U-M will face Hawai'i on March 1 to complete the trip.
