
Borja Earns Second Invitation to Augusta National Women's Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- University of Michigan women's golf fifth-year Hailey Borja was invited Tuesday (Feb. 27) to participate in her second Augusta National Women's Amateur from April 3-6 at Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club. If she advances, she will play a final round at the prestigious Augusta National.
The international field of women amateurs will compete in a 54-hole stroke-play event. Starting with 36 holes at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club on Wednesday and Thursday (April 3-4), the field will be cut down to the top 30, who will advance to Augusta National.
The entire field will play an official practice round at Augusta on Friday, April 5, while the final advancing 30 will play a final round on Saturday, April 6.
Borja earned her first invitation to the Augustan National Women's Amateur in 2022 and advanced to the final round after posted a 147 (71-76) 36-hole total. Firing a 74 (+2) on Augusta National, she tied for 12th.
Returning for a fifth-season, Borja became the first Wolverine to earn four All-Big Ten selections as well as becoming the first U-M freshman to earn an all-conference honor. She helped Michigan win the program's first Big Ten title (2021), make three NCAA regional appearances and advance to back-to-back NCAA Finals (2021, '22). In the NCAA Finals, Borja advanced as an individual to back-to-back championship rounds, tying for fifth in 2021 (286, -2) and tying for 13th in 2022 (292, +4).
Borja has not missed an event her entire Michigan career, playing in 44 straight events. In that time, she has 16 top-10 finishes, with six among the top five, including a win at the FGCU duel (Jan. 18, 2021). She carries a career scoring average of 73.31, which ranks second on U-M's all-time list.
Away from collegiate events, Borja has nine USGA events to her credit, including four appearances at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championships. Advancing to match play in all four of those events, she reached the 2021 Sweet 16 as well as the 2023 semifinal.
The 2024 Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion, as long as they retain their amateur status, will receive for one year an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs, the 2024 U.S. Women's Open, the 2024 Women's Open, the 2024 Chevron Championship, the 2024 Evian Championship and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible.
