
U-M to Return Home for Midweek Contest with Toledo

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (5-11) will return home for its second home game of the season and will take on Toledo in a Tuesday (March 12) contest at 3 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The game will stream live on Big Ten Plus.Â

• Michigan returns to Ray Fisher Stadium after dropping all three games to No.16-ranked Coastal Carolina. Last time at home, U-M defeated Oakland, 13-5, behind two home runs -- one from Bradley Navarro and one from Cole Caruso. The home runs continued over the weekend, but the results did not follow. Joe Longo and Stephen Hrustich hit home runs in two of the three games while Mitch Voit, Jonathan Kim, Kyle Dernedde and Will Rogers all hit one over the weekend.Â
• Voit is leading the team offensively on the season, hitting .333 with 22 hits and 12 extra base hits. He also has tallied 11 runs and driven in 11. Voit has nine doubles on the season, ranking eighth across the NCAA and second in the Big Ten Conference. He is also seventh in the conference in hits.
• U-M ranks in the top-five nationally in both double plays and double plays per game. The Wolverines have turned 20 double plays on the season which is second nationally behind Coastal Carolina and tied for first in the conference with Purdue. Michigan is averaging 1.25 double plays a game which is also tied with Purdue for first in the conference while ranking fourth nationally. Over the weekend, U-M converted four on Sunday (March 10) and added on more on Saturday (March 9). The team has converted a double play in 11 of its 16 games with a season high of four twice.Â
• Over the weekend, Hrustich led the team with a .444 average and a .634 on-base percentage. Three of his four hits went for extra bases with two home runs against the Chanticleers. On the season, Hrustich is hitting .226 with a team-leading four home runs. He also leads the team in walks drawing 12 on the season.
• Kim is second on the team in average on the season hitting .283 with a .403 on-base percentage. Last season, Kim had three home runs and ten walks and has already reached tied those marks this season. Over the past week, he hit .294 with five hits and four runs.
• Rogers made two starts at catcher over the past week and an appearance on the mound. At the plate, he had three hits and three runs over eight at-bats. On the mound, Rogers pitched a career-high 4.1 innings and tied his career high in strikeouts with six, set two weeks ago against Arkansas. In the 11th inning, Rogers loaded the bases but was able to strike out three Chanticleers in a row to strand the bases loaded.
• Twenty players have had a plate appearance this season with eight freshmen making debuts at the plate. On the mound, U-M has used 17 pitchers with seven of those being freshmen. Only five Wolverines have appeared in every game, four have started every game, and only one has started and completed every game in Caruso.
• Toledo is 7-8 on the season and is on a three-game winning streak after a series sweep against Akron. The Rockets outscored the Zips 14-9 over the past weekend. All-time, Michigan is 40-14-1 against Toledo and 27-9-1 at Ray Fisher Stadium. Last season, the Rockets took the midweek matchup 10-7. In the game, Kurt Barr earned the start and pitched two innings while Voit had a two-run home run.
