Notes
• Michigan walked off Toledo 7-6 in 12 innings on Tuesday (March 12). Cole Caruso singled down the left-field line to push home the winning run and Kurt Barr pitched six scoreless innings in relief to earn his first win on the season.
• Mitch Voit leads the team in many offensive categories this season, including batting average (.319), hits (23) and doubles (nine). He has reached base in every game this season with a hit in 15 of 17 games so far. His nine doubles rank 10th nationally and second in the conference while his 23 hits rank seventh in the Big Ten. On the mound, Voit is just one of three players in the conference with a complete game and one of just 35 nationally.
• After two double plays against Toledo, U-M is now tied with Coastal Carolina for first in the nation in double plays turned with 22. The Wolverines are second in double plays per game averaging 1.29, trailing only Washington with a 1.33 average. Last season, U-M turned only 39 across the entire season. This season, Kyle Dernedde has been involved in 17 double plays, while Voit has 15 and Mack Timbrook has turned 14.
• The Michigan infield also is contributing offensively. Dernedde is third on the team in batting average (.262) and has two triples on the season. Timbrook has served as the leadoff hitter the last five games and leads the Wolverines in runs with 16. Caruso has a .324 on-base percentage and leads the team in RBIs with 13.
• Over the last 10 games, Stephen Hrustich leads the team with three home runs and a .500 on-base percentage. On the season, he is hitting .259 with four home runs and 12 runs scored along with a team-leading 13 walks. Hrustich has started all but one game this season -- 13 times in left field and the last three games in right.
• Will Rogers has been a productive two-way player this season. He has started nine games at catcher and made four appearances on the mound. In his last pitching appearance, Rogers struck out six batters over a career-high 4.1 innings pitched. At the plate, Rogers has hit two home runs and scored seven runs.
• Twenty players have had a plate appearance this season, eight of them freshmen. On the mound, U-M has used 17 pitchers with seven of those being freshmen. Only five Wolverines have appeared in every game, four have started every game, and only one has started and completed every game (Caruso).
• This season, the Wolverines have played in four extra-inning games and are joined by just three other schools. U-M has played the most extra frames (nine), trailing only Long Beach State which has played 12 extra frames after a 17-inning tie against Washington.
• San Diego is 8-7 on the season and has split its last four games, going 1-2 against No.17-ranked Dallas Baptist last weekend and defeating the Wolverines 9-1 two weeks ago at Dodger Stadium during the finale of the Dodgertown Classic.
