
Michigan to Return to VTC For Top-10 Match

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (11-3) wraps up the non-conference portion of its season on Sunday (March 10), hosting No. 8 Pepperdine (7-2) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The match is set for noon, with the first 100 fans in attendance getting a t-shirt.
Admission is free to all matches at the VTC.

• Michigan (11-3) wraps up the non-conference portion of its season, hosting No. 8 Pepperdine (7-2). The Waves will play at No. 9 Ohio State (March 8) prior to coming to the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M is 6-1 at the VTC this season after getting back-to-back wins over No. 5 NC State (Feb. 22) and Columbia (Feb. 23).
• Michigan and Pepperdine are meeting for the sixth straight season. Pepperdine has won four straight in the series, with Michigan getting a 4-0 shutout win over the Waves at the VTC on Feb. 22, 2019. The Waves feature five ranked singles players and the No. 2-ranked doubles team.
• The Wolverines put together quite the non-conference schedule, playing ranked teams in 11 of its 14 matches. Michigan is back at No. 2 in this week's ITA computer rankings, equaling its highest rank in program history. The Wolverines have four wins over teams currently in the top 10.
• The Waves are the third top-10 team to come to Ann Arbor this season. Michigan knocked off No. 8 Florida (Feb. 6) and No. 5 NC State (Feb. 22) at home earlier this year.
• Michigan has yielded just eight points to its opponents over its seven home matches, highlighted by three shutout wins.
• Piper Charney joined Kari Miller in the 20-win club by virtue of a straight-set win at Hawai'i (March 1). Charney has won her last three singles matches, carrying a 20-8 overall record and a 9-3 mark in dual matches.
• Five Wolverines are ranked in the latest singles rankings, led by Kari Miller at No. 5. Julia Fliegner (No. 18), Gala Mesochoritou (No. 44), Lily Jones (No. 61) and Jaedan Brown (No. 81) are each ranked in singles. Brown and Kari Miller are in at No. 4 this week in the doubles rankings.
• Singles play has been strong for the Wolverines in dual-match action. U-M is 43-19 in singles play, good for a .694 winning percentage. Charney and Mesochoritou lead the way for the Wolverines, each winning nine singles matches in dual matches. U-M is 24-8 at the Nos. 4-6 positions, winning 75 percent of its matches at the bottom of the lineup.
• Michigan is 9-0 when winning the doubles point this season and 2-3 without securing the match's first point, getting wins over No. 15 Cal and No. 5 NC State after falling in doubles play. Reese Miller and Charney are 8-3 as a pair during dual matches to lead the Wolverines.
• Reese Miller picked up the first dual-match win of her career in Michigan's win at Hawai'i (March 1), winning in straight sets at No. 6. It was her first time in the singles lineup this season.
• Michigan begins Big Ten play next weekend, traveling to No. 9 Ohio State (March 15) and hosting Penn State (March 17).
