
U-M Puts Up 18 in Run-Rule Win over Eastern Michigan

ANN ARBOR Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team was dominant against Eastern Michigan, winning 18-6 in a seven-inning run-rule game, Tuesday night (April 2) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
Michigan (12-17) was led offensively by AJ Garcia , who tallied four runs and Mack Timbrook , who went 3-for-4 with two runs and a new career high of five RBIs. All nine Wolverine starters reached base at least once, with eight of the nine reaching twice or more. Collin Priest drew a team-high four walks on the day and scored three runs. Chase Allen earned the start on the mound and pitched five innings to earn the win.
Eastern Michigan (11-16) tallied 11 hits on the day, but only six runs -- and issued 14 walks to U-M batters.
Allen started strong and kept the Eagles scoreless for the first three innings. In the bottom of the first, Michigan scored six runs to take the lead. Garcia singled to open the frame, and hit-by-pitches and walks loaded the bases. Michigan scored two -- one on a walk and one on a hit-by-pitch -- to take the lead without a hit. Then, Timbrook recorded the first hit of the afternoon, a bases-clearing three-run double that scored Cole Caruso, Dylan Stanton and Priest. Michigan drew three more walks in the inning which allowed Timbrook to score.
The Wolverines added to their lead in the second and third. Timbrook hit another double which scored Caruso and Priest. Garcia scored in the third on a throwing error after reaching on a walk.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs on a home run and a single. Michigan was able to get the runs back with three in the bottom of the inning. The first came from Dernedde, who scored on a fielding error by EMU. Mitch Voit then had a two-run home run to left field and increased the lead to 12-2.
Eastern Michigan scored one run in the fifth inning off of a single. The Wolverines were once again able to respond and put up six runs in the frame. Timbrook opened the inning with a single and a stolen base. Brock Leitgeb singled through the right side and Timbrook scored from second. Then, three wild pitches allowed Kyle Dernedde, Leitgeb and Garcia to score. A Priest double scored Voit, and a Stanton single scored Priest to put U-M up, 18-3, after five innings.Â
An Eastern Michigan single scored one run in the top of the sixth off Sachem Ramos, who struck out two Eagles in the frame. EMU scored two in the top of the seventh, but Ricky Kidd came in and retired the two batters he faced to end the game.Â
U-M will travel to Iowa next for a three-game conference series beginning with a game on Friday (April 5) with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and airing live on the Big Ten Network.
