
U-M to Host Kent State in Midweek Contest to Close Out Homestand

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (23-21) will close out a seven-game homestand with a midweek contest against Kent State with the first pitch at 4 p.m. on Tuesday (April 29), and the game streaming live on B1G+.
Notes
• Over the weekend, U-M swept the Long Beach State Dirtbags in a three-game series to improve to 23-21 on the year. On Friday (April 26), the Wolverines used a 10-run eighth inning in which every active batter saw action. U-M used another eighth-inning rally on Saturday (April 27) with a wild pitch and sacrifice fly to go up, 7-5. The Maize and Blue closed out the weekend with another win for its first sweep of the season with home runs from Stephen Hrustich and Will Rogers.
• Mack Timbrook has been on fire over the past month slashing .531/.589/.694 with eight doubles. He is second on the team in runs over April with 13 trailing only AJ Garcia, who has 15. On the season, Timbrook now leads the team in average batting .345 with 70 total bases.
• U-M continues to lead the nation in double plays after four over the weekend. On the season, the Wolverines have turned 49 with Timbrook and Kyle Dernedde leading the way with 34 on the team.  Michigan also ranks first in the nation in double plays per game averaging 1.11 per game this season. The team has surpassed its season total already from 12 of the past 24 seasons -- including the last four seasons.
• After earning Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors, Jacob Denner picked up a win and two saves over the weekend against the Dirtbags. He pitched a total of three innings with three strikeouts and surrendered two runs. Denner earned the win on Friday before a one-inning save on Saturday and a one-out save on Sunday. Over the past seven games for Michigan, Denner has appeared in six of them pitching 12 innings with 13 strikeouts. On the season, he has 19 appearances.
• In his fifth season, Denner is moving up the career leaderboards. He now trails John Arvai by just one appearance for third all-time. Denner is currently 10th in innings pitched and is 2.2 away from entering a tie for ninth with Brandon Sinnery. After three strikeouts over the weekend, he closed the gap with Tommy Henry and trails by four to enter sixth all-time.
• Hrustich led the team over the weekend hitting .625 with a 1.000 slugging percentage. He tallied five runs and five RBIs reaching base 10 times -- five hits and five walks. Hrustich hit his team-leading 10th home run of the season which is one off tying his career high of 11 in one season. On the season, he is now hitting an even .300 with a team-leading on-base percentage (.465) and slugging percentage (.593). Â
• Thirty-five of the 38 players on the roster have seen game action this season with 23 players recording a plate appearance and 18 players seeing action on the mound. Six players have done both this season with Voit leading the way among those with ten starts on the mound and 173 at-bats. Kyle Dernedde is the only player to start every game and is joined by Hrustich, who is the only other player to appear in every contest this season.
• Kent State is 22-20 on the season and has won five of its last eight games. The Golden Flashes share four common opponents with the Wolverines so far this season going a combined 5-5 against Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo and Penn State. U-M is 7-5 against those teams this season. All-time, Michigan is 3-0 against Kent State and 1-0 at home. The home matchup came last season with U-M winning 7-5 with Mitch Voit tallying two hits and Jonathan Kim bringing home two. Chase Allen picked up the win in the contest with Denner and Voit also pitching.
