ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (13-5, 4-3 Big Ten) will hit the road for a midweek contest at No. 23-ranked Minnesota (17-2, 5-2 Big Ten) on Wednesday (Jan. 22) at 7 p.m. CST.
Notes
• U-M has won three straight games, getting wins over Purdue, Washington and Rutgers during the streak. Michigan has scored at least 80 points in each of those contests and hit 10 three-pointers against both the Boilermakers and Scarlet Knights. The Wolverines are 10-0 this season when scoring at least 80 points.
• The Wolverines have climbed back over .500 in Big Ten action behind their three-game winning streak. U-M is one of 11 conference teams to be over .500 as the teams approach the midpoint of the Big Ten slate.
• Michigan had four freshmen see the floor against Rutgers (Jan. 18), with all four finishing in double figures in scoring. Syla Swords led the way, finishing with 20 points for her sixth 20-point game of the season. Mila Holloway and Olivia Olson each went for 13, with Te'Yala Delfosse contributing 10 points off the bench. It is the first time this season that four freshmen have scored in double figures in the same game.
• The game marks Olson's return to her home state of Minnesota. Olson won a pair of basketball state titles at Benilde St. Margaret's, along with a soccer title in 2023. Olson's two basketball state titles were won at Williams Arena as BSM won in both 2023 and 2024. She joins Holloway (North Carolina), Jordan Hobbs (Ohio) and Alyssa Crockett (Indiana) as Wolverines to return to their home states this season.
• Michigan is heading to Minnesota to face the Gophers in the lone meeting this season between the teams. Minnesota took the regular-season meeting in Ann Arbor last season, with the Wolverines getting the win in Minneapolis in the Big Ten Tournament. Minnesota leads the all-time series, 36-33, but Michigan has won eight of the last 10.
• Michigan is looking for its first win over a ranked team this season after facing five top-10 teams. U-M has faced (rankings at the time) No. 1 South Carolina, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 4 USC, No. 1 UCLA and No. 8 Ohio State this season. U-M has two opportunities this week, facing No. 23 Minnesota on the road and No. 21 Michigan State (Jan. 25) at Crisler Center.
• Michigan came in at No. 24 in this week's Associated Press poll, marking the seventh time this season that Michigan has been in the poll. It is the 90th time under head coach Kim Barnes Arico that U-M has been ranked by the AP. KBA accounts for 87 percent of Michigan's 103 total appearances in the poll.
• Michigan will host Michigan State on Saturday (Jan. 25) in its annual Crash Crisler contest presented by the Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital. Fans are encouraged to wear maize as part of a Maize Out.
