
Wolverines to Hit the Road for Test at No. 16 North Carolina

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team (1-0) takes to the road for a Saturday (Feb. 8) contest against No. 16 North Carolina (0-0) at Dorrance Field. The game is set for a noon start and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
Notes
• U-M dominated its season opener, a 14-1 win over Marquette. The Wolverines allowed the fewest goals in program history and rattled off 14 unanswered goals in the victory. The Michigan defense kept the Golden Eagles scoreless for 48:51 after Marquette scored its lone goal with 11:49 remaining in the first quarter. The defensive trio of Pace Billings, Kees van Wees and Mason Whitney combined to cause four turnovers and pick up nine ground balls, while holding Marquette to 26 shots compared to Michigan's 49.
• Junior goalie Hunter Taylor was a wall in the cage, making 10 saves for a .909 save percentage. For his efforts, he was named the Lacrosse Network Player of the Week and the Big Ten Specialist of the Week.
• Billings picked up the first Big Ten honor of his career when he was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 4) for his work against Marquette. The Denver, Colo., native kept the Golden Eagles' top offensive player scoreless while contributing to Michigan's program record of fewest goals allowed in a single game.
• Michigan's offensive production against Marquette came from seven different scorers with five multi-goal scorers. The Wolverines were led by Ryan Cohen and Jack Jenkins, who each recorded four points with two goals and two assists. Aidan Mulholland and Bo Lockwood added three points with two goals and one assist each. Graduate student Will Byrne notched his first two goals as a Wolverine and Lukas Stanat scored in his debut donning maize and blue. Sophomore Jackie Weller was also a huge part of Michigan's offensive dominance, going 12-for-18 on the faceoff and picking up seven ground balls.
• Five Wolverines made their Michigan debuts against Marquette. Billings and Stanat earned starts, while Dylan Bruno, DJ Dixon and Byrne came off the bench to contribute to the U-M win.
• Michigan has seven regular-season contests remaining at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The Wolverines will also play host to the semifinals and finals of the Big Ten Conference Tournament, May 1-3.
• U-M continues its road stretch when it travels for a noon contest against Hobart on Saturday, Feb. 15.
