
Michigan to Welcome USC to Big Ten, Wilpon Complex for Three-Game Series

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (10-6, 2-1 Big Ten)Â hosts its first series of the season at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium, against USC (9-7, 0-3 Big Ten). The series begins on Friday (March 14) at 4 p.m., continues on Saturday (March 15) at noon and closes out on Sunday (March 16) at noon. All three games will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan has won four of its last five contests, taking down Illinois in a three-game conference series before wins in midweek contests against Toledo and Michigan State. Against the Rockets on Tuesday (March 11), U-M used a four-run seventh inning, taking the lead on a three-run home run from Mitch Voit. The Wolverines then had another big inning against the Spartans on Wednesday (March 12), scoring nine runs on five hits and sending 13 batters to the plate in the fifth to take an 11-3 lead.
• Voit is hitting .403 on the season with a .758 slugging percentage. He has tallied a team-leading 25 hits, with 12 going for extra bases. Over the two midweek contests, Voit went 5-for-9 with two runs, six RBI, one double and one home run. He has reached base safely in all but one game this season and has done so in 14 straight games. Over the on-base streak, he has tallied 23 hits and has recorded a hit in nine straight contests.
• Benny Casillas leads the team with a .408 batting average with 20 hits. He has recorded a hit in 13 of the 14 contests he has started and reached base safely in all of them. Over his past four starts, he has four runs, seven hits, and seven RBI. Casillas has totaled 12 runs and nine RBI on the season with four extra-base hits.
• Colby Turner has found his swing after a slow start as a Wolverine. In his last five appearances, he has recorded a hit in four of them and added five RBI. Against Michigan State on Wednesday, Turner hit his first home run as a Wolverine, a two-run shot, and added one hit, run and RBI to his stats. Turner has seen action at both corner outfield spots and third base this season.
• In the last 10 games, AJ Rausch has started in center field for the Wolverines and has tallied seven runs on eight hits. Rausch hit his first home run as a Wolverine against Toledo, a leadoff homer to open the bottom of the first inning. He also scored another run, reaching on a single in the seventh inning, and came home on a Voit home run. Rausch has played a perfect center field with 23 putouts in 23 chances.
• Senior Cole Caruso has played in 75 career games, 74 starts, and has appeared in the last 53 U-M contests. He is hitting .290 with 18 hits, nine runs and 13 RBI this season. His RBI total is second on the team and he is one of three Wolverines with double-digit runs plated. Over the two midweek contests, he tallied three hits, two RBI and two runs.
• This season, David Lally Jr. has pitched 18.1 innings with 17 strikeouts and five runs allowed. He holds a 1.96 earned-run average and a 0.98 WHIP through his four appearances. His first start of the season came against Villanova, pitching five scoreless innings en route to a combined shutout. His next start came against Long Beach State, carrying a no-hitter through five innings and striking out five. His most recent start was on Saturday (March 8) against Illinois, when he allowed one unearned run on one hit through five innings and struck out six, with four going down looking.
• A draft-eligible sophomore, Dylan Vigue has shown glimpses of what makes him one of the top arms in the Big Ten with 16 strikeouts and teams hitting just .232 off him. After just two starts that lasted more than five innings all of 2024, he already has three this year, tossing a career-high 7.1 innings against Illinois on Sunday. Vigue struck out six Illini batters and retired the first nine batters. He allowed two runs in the fourth inning but settled back in and took down 10 of the next 12 before allowing three earned runs in the eighth. On the season, Vigue holds a 4.91 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.
• The Wolverines have relied on three arms consistently out of the bullpen. Max Debiec has thrown 11.1 scoreless innings this season with 12 strikeouts and one save. Will Rogers has the most innings pitched without a start (15.1) and holds a 3.52 ERA with eight strikeouts. His four saves are tied for the Big Ten lead and rank ninth in the nation. Tate Carey has pitched 9.2 innings with seven strikeouts, a 5.59 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP.
• USC is 9-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play after being swept by No. 10-ranked Oregon in the first weekend of conference play. The Trojans won their first six contests, but have lost their last five. Michigan trails 3-2 in the all-time series against USC, but won the last meeting between the teams 8-5 in a midweek game on Feb. 27, 2024, in Los Angeles.
