
Wolverines to Head Back to the VTC for Pacific Northwest Schools

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (17-3, 10-0 Big Ten) returns to the Varsity Tennis Center for its penultimate weekend of regular-season action, hosting Oregon (8-10, 1-8 Big Ten) at noon Saturday (April 12) and No. 17 Washington (16-2, 8-1 Big Ten) at 11 a.m. Sunday (April 13). Admission to both matches is free. Michigan is the only unbeaten team in the Big Ten and can clinch at least a share of the conference title with a pair of wins this weekend.

• Michigan climbed to No. 5 in this week's team rankings after road wins against Indiana and Purdue. The Wolverines have faced 11 teams currently ranked in the ITA top 25, including this weekend's opponent, No. 17 Washington.
• U-M leads the Big Ten standings at 10-0 and is the only team without a conference loss. The Wolverines have won the last two Big Ten titles and can secure at least a share of a third straight with wins this weekend.
• Michigan has won 38 consecutive Big Ten regular-season matches dating back to the 2021-22 season. The Wolverines have dropped only nine total points in 10 conference matches this season.
• U-M has claimed the doubles point in five straight contests. The pairs of Lily Jones/Jessica Bernales and Reese Miller/Julia Fliegner are each 4-0 in Big Ten play, while Emily Sartz-Lunde and Piper Charney are 4-1.
• This will be the first conference meeting between Michigan and Oregon. U-M leads the all-time series 3-0, including a 4-0 win in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Oregon senior Karin Young is the sister of Michigan men's tennis player Gavin Young.
• The Wolverines are 2-0 all-time against Washington, winning 6-1 in Seattle in 2007 and 7-0 in Ann Arbor in 2008. Sunday's match has significant implications for the Big Ten title race.
• Four Wolverines are ranked in singles: Fliegner (No. 3), Charney (No. 35), Jones (No. 41), and Sartz-Lunde (No. 75). Jones and Bernales are No. 23 in doubles, while Bernales and Charney are ranked No. 29.
• Fliegner has 106 career singles wins, ranking eighth in program history. She has played primarily at the No. 1 and 2 singles spots this season.
• Charney leads U-M in singles wins during dual matches with 14 and is two victories away from a second consecutive 30-win season. As a team, Michigan is 66-19 in singles this spring.
• Head coach Ronni Bernstein is in her 18th season at Michigan and holds a 540-195 career coaching record. She ranks eighth nationally among active coaches in wins and 18th all-time.
• U-M has two regular-season matches remaining. The Wolverines will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for a non-conference match against Ohio State on Wednesday, April 16, before closing out the regular season at home against Michigan State on Saturday, April 19.
