Wolverines Top No. 13 MSU to Finish Season Sweep

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team put up 26 points in the second quarter to erase a six-point deficit and went on to an 86-65 win over No. 13-ranked Michigan State on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 15) at Crisler Center. The victory secured the season sweep for the Wolverines.
Trailing 21-15 after the first 10 minutes, Michigan (22-4, 13-2 Big Ten) used a 12-0 run midway through the second quarter, taking a 34-25 lead on a Kendall Dudley layup with 4:28 left before halftime. Sparking the run, Mila Holloway accounted for eight points, including a pair of threes, while Dudley scored four points during the stretch.
Michigan's lead grew to 14, 41-27, on a Syla Swords triple, but MSU (20-6, 9-6 Big Ten) closed the half with a three-point play as U-M carried a 41-30 advantage into the break after outscoring the Spartans, 26-9, in the second quarter.
U-M scored 13 of the first 17 points of the third quarter to put any chance of a Spartan rally to rest. Holloway's layup with 6:54 remaining in the period pushed Michigan's lead to 53-34. A Macy Brown layup off a steal from Brooke Quarles Daniels in the final minute restored a 19-point cushion at 63-44 and forced an MSU timeout. The Spartans hit a pair of three-pointers around a layup from Quarles Daniels to send Michigan to the fourth quarter with a 65-50 lead.
MSU cut the deficit to 13 twice in the final frame but got no closer, as Michigan led by as many as 24 en route to the 21-point win.
Swords paced Michigan with 24 points, two rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes. Olivia Olson recorded her seventh straight 20-point game, finishing with 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. Holloway added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Michigan forced 24 MSU turnovers, converting them into 22 points.
U-M has the week off before traveling to Iowa next Sunday (Feb. 22) to face the Hawkeyes at 11 a.m. CT on FOX.
