LA MIRADA, Calif. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan water polo team improved to 11-7 on the season with a commanding 16-5 victory over Biola University on Monday (March 2) at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center.
Brooke Ingram, Bailee Swindells and Ari Karampetsou each scored twice to pace a balanced Wolverine attack. Karampetsou added two assists and three steals in a strong all-around performance, while Ingram chipped in an assist to complement her pair of early goals.
Michigan seized control from the outset. Ingram netted back-to-back scores in the opening four minutes to spark U-M's big first half. The Wolverines built an 8-2 lead by the break, with six additional goals coming from six different players. Goalkeeper Sophia Bunnell started in net and limited Biola to just two first-half scores.
Leading 11-2 at halftime, Michigan continued to spread the scoring in the second half. Emilia Mladjan struck less than 20 seconds into the third quarter, followed by goals from Maddy Scarth and Jordan Schneider, the latter converting on a power play opportunity.
The Wolverines' depth shined late, as four freshmen contributed in the second half. Swindells added her second goal of the day, while Sydney Brandvold and Ryland Smith each found the back of the net. Tyler Jackson took over in goal after halftime and recorded five saves on seven shots.
Michigan will return to action Tuesday (March 3) at 11 a.m. PT against Concordia University Irvine. The matchup will be streamed on Team 1 Sports.
