
Wolverines to Head to Big Ten Tournament as No. 3 Seed

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (24-5) finished tied for second in the Big Ten and will head to the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 3 seed. U-M will face either No. 14-ranked Maryland (23-7), Oregon (20-11) or Purdue (13-16) in the quarterfinals on Friday evening (March 6) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The game is set for 25 minutes after the completion of game 10 at approximately 9 p.m. and can be seen on the Big Ten Network. Â
Notes
• Michigan finished tied for second in the Big Ten with a 15-3 record. Michigan tied with Iowa and is the No. 3 seed after losing the head-to-head matchup with the Hawkeyes. Michigan has won at least nine games in Big Ten play in each of the last 11 seasons.
• U-M has reached the semifinals in the last two Big Ten Tournaments, getting wins over Minnesota and Indiana in 2024 while knocking off Washington and Maryland last season. U-M has made it to the semifinals in four of the last seven seasons (2019, 2020, 2024, 2025). Michigan's entire Big Ten Tournament history can be found on page seven.Â
• Michigan set new program standards for regular-season wins (24) and Big Ten wins (15) this season. U-M's 24 wins are the third-most in program history behind 28 wins in 2016-17 (WNIT champions) and 25 wins in 2021-22 (Elite Eight).
• Michigan went 3-0 against its possible quarterfinal opponents, getting home wins over Maryland and Purdue, with a win at Oregon. Michigan is coming off an 87-69 win over the No. 14-ranked Terrapins (Feb. 28), with the other two games occurring before the calendar flipped to 2026. U-M defeated Purdue in the Big Ten opener, 104-56, on Dec. 7, and pulled out a double-overtime 92-87 victory at Oregon on Dec. 29. U-M is 1-1 all-time against Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament, 0-5 against the Boilermakers and has not faced the Ducks in the postseason.
• Olivia Olson and Syla Swords earned consensus All-Big Ten first-team honors, Brooke Quarles Daniels was named to the Big Ten all-defensive team and Mila Holloway grabbed All-Big Ten honorable mention from the coaches as the Big Ten announced its all-conference honors on Tuesday afternoon (March 3). Alyssa Crockett was Michigan's Sportsmanship Honoree. It is just the fourth time that Michigan has had two players earn first-team honors from the coaches in the same season.
• U-M is 6-4 against top-25 teams this season after getting an 87-69 win over No. 14-ranked Maryland last time out. U-M has wins over No. 18 Notre Dame, No. 25 Illinois, No. 13 Michigan State twice, No. 13 Ohio State and No. 14 Maryland. Michigan has fallen to just No.1 UConn, No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 13 Iowa. Michigan's NET SOS is No. 5.
• Michigan was the overall No. 8 in the latest NCAA reveal, grabbing a No. 2 seed in the Fort Worth 3 Region. Michigan has a NET of 6, a NET SOS of 5 and is one of just five teams to have at least nine Quad 1 wins.
• Michigan had arguably the hardest final two weeks in the Big Ten, facing No. 13 Michigan State (Feb. 15), No. 13 Iowa (Feb. 22), No. 13 Ohio State (Feb. 25) and No. 14 Maryland (Feb. 28) to close the regular season. The Wolverines went 3-1 during the stretch, with their only loss coming at Iowa on Senior Day.
• Michigan stayed at No. 8 in the latest Associated Press poll. It is the 15th straight week that Michigan has been in the top 10, the longest streak in the top 10 in program history. Michigan was in the top 10 for six straight weeks during the 2021-22 season. That streak started with the Jan. 17, 2022, poll and ran through the Feb. 21, 2022, poll.
• Michigan has three players scoring in double figures in sophomores Olson (19.6 ppg), Swords (14.6 ppg) and Holloway (12.6 ppg).
