ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (16-6) will head to Columbus for the 2026 Big Ten Tournament this weekend (April 24-26) at the Auer Tennis Complex. Notes
• Michigan finished runner-up at last year's Big Ten Tournament, snapping a streak of three straight titles for the maize and blue. U-M has won tournament titles in 1997, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024. The tournament determined the Big Ten champion up until 2009 when the conference started using the regular season to determine the Big Ten champion.
• The Wolverines have reached 20 straight championship matches at the Big Ten Tournament, dating back to the 2004-05 season. Michigan has won five of the last seven tournaments contested, picking up a 4-3 win over Northwestern in the final match in 2018, grabbing a 4-1 win over Illinois in 2019, and knocking off Ohio State (4-0 in 2022, 4-2 in 2023, 4-2 in 2024) in three of the last four editions. The Buckeyes won in 2021 and 2025, with no tournament held in 2020.
• Michigan won its fourth straight Big Ten championship this season, going 12-1 in conference play and sharing the title with Ohio State and USC. Due to tiebreaking procedures, Ohio State earned the No. 1 seed, USC earned the No. 2 seed and Michigan earned the No. 3 seed.
• U-M received a bye into the quarterfinals and will play the final match of the day on Friday (April 24) at 4:30 pm. Michigan will face either Iowa or Wisconsin in the quarterfinals. The Wolverines earned a pair of 4-0 wins this season against both teams.
• U-M stayed in the top 25 of the ITA team rankings for the fifth straight week, coming in at No. 18 after a 4-1 win at Michigan State (April 18) to clinch the Big Ten championship.
• The Wolverines won 12 straight Big Ten matches to close the regular season after dropping their conference opener at No. 3 Ohio State on March 6. U-M's 12 conference wins are the third-most in a season in program history. It is the 16th time in head coach Ronni Bernstein's 19 seasons that Michigan has won double-figure Big Ten matches.
• U-M is 13-1 when winning the doubles point and 3-5 without it. Michigan most recently took a 4-1 win at Northwestern (April 5) without the doubles point. U-M won the doubles point against the Spartans with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. U-M has one ranked doubles team in No. 30 Lily Jones and Jessica Bernales.
• Jones became the first Wolverine to reach the 20-win mark in singles this year after recording a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 in Michigan's win over Penn (Jan. 24). She is 28-9 on the season, reaching 20 wins for the fourth straight season. She picked up the 100th win of her career during the NCAA Singles Championship and is now tied for fifth all-time at Michigan with 113 singles wins.Â
• Michigan has a trio of ranked singles players in Piper Charney (No. 13), Jones (No. 36) and Reese Miller (No. 90). Charney and Jones each earned ITA All-America honors in singles this past fall by reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship.
