Joel Tinney joined the Wolverine coaching staff on Oct. 17, 2023.
A Johns Hopkins alum, spent the previous five seasons on the coaching staff at Calvert Hall (Md.) as varsity assistant coach. In 2019, he helped lead the Towson, Md., based school to the MIAA and National Championship. He also applied his trade in the professional ranks in the National Lacrosse League, Major League Lacrosse, and the Premier Lacrosse League. Most recently, he was a part of PLL Atlas for three seasons, with his final season coming in 2021.
A Cambridge, Ontario native, he attended Culver Military Academy (Ind.), graduating in 2013. Ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the country, he chose future Big Ten member Johns Hopkins and went on to become a two-time First Team All-American, Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2014, two-time All-Big Ten honoree, a team captain, and Big Ten team champion in 2015 and 2018.
Tinney graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2018 with a political science and government degree.
