DALLAS, Texas -- The University of Michigan women's golf team kicked off the spring season with a trip to the Midwest Classic Friday through Sunday (Feb. 25-27) at the Hyatt Bear Creek Golf Club. The Wolverines finished 11th out of the 16 teams competing in the three-day tournament, with rounds of 321-340-343 for a tournament total of 1,004.
Texas Christian won the team title with a total of 936 after rounds of 306-308-322. Missouri finished as the runner-up at 942 (310-312-320). Texas Christian's Angela Stanford won the individual title with a three-day total of 226 after rounds of 75-75-76. Northwestern's Emily Gilley finished as the runner-up at 227 (72-80-75).
Michigan sophomore Cortney Reno (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS) led the way for the Wolverines, finishing in 33rd after shooting rounds of 82-84-80 for a three-day total of 246. Freshman Kim Benedict (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS) tied for 52nd after rounds of 74-84-94 for a tournament total of 252.
Rounding out the Wolverine squad were sophomore Misia Lemanski (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS), who finished tied for 65th (84-84-89=257); junior Amy Talbot (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS), who finished tied for 67th (81-88-90=259); and sophomore Bess Bowers (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North HS), who finished tied for 71st (88-88-84=260).
Sophomores Stephanie MacAdams (Lubbock, Texas/Coronado HS) and LeAnna Wicks (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) competed as non-scoring individuals in the tournament. MacAdams shot 82-91-86 for a total of 259 and tie for 67th, while Wicks finished with rounds of 94-89-92 for 275 and placed 80th.
The Wolverines' next tournament will be March 18-19, when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., to compete in Stetson's Hatter Spring Fling at the Pelican Bay Country Club's North Course.
