MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Sophomore Johnny Slater belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, and classmate Brett Adcock allowed just three hits and a run in 6.1 innings as the University of Michigan baseball team bested Indiana, 4-1, on the opening day of the 2015 Big Ten Tournament Wednesday morning (May 20) at Target Field.

Michigan moves into the winner's bracket of bracket one and will face No. 19 Iowa Thursday afternoon (May 21) at 5 p.m. CDT. That game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

U-M put up a three-spot in the second inning off Indiana starter Luke Harrison. Junior Cody Bruder singled with one out. He stole second, and junior Travis Maezes walked to put two runners on. Slater then launched a 0-1 pitch to the seats in right field to give the Maize and Blue a 3-0 lead.

Senior Jackson Glines, who made a tremendous diving catch for the second out of the game, led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. He stole second and scored on sophomore Carmen Benedetti's double to center field, giving the Maize and Blue a 4-0 lead. Indiana scored its first run in the seventh after singles from Logan Sowers and Craig Dedelow, a sacrifice bunt and an Austin Cangelosi groundout.

Glines & Slater

Glines had three hits in the win, while Slater drove in three. Benedetti had a pair of hits and a run batted in.

Adcock earned the win on the mound. He struck out six in those 6.1 innings. Junior Jacob Cronenworth earned his fifth save of the season, striking out a batter and allowing a hit in two innings of relief.
