
U-M to Head to New York for Three Non-Conference Games

The No. 9 University of Michigan water polo team will travel to Oneonta, New York, this weekend (March 10-11) for three matches at Moyer Pool, home of the Hartwick Hawks. The Maize and Blue will face Brown, No. 17 Princeton, and host No. 13 Hartwick.
THINGS TO KNOW
• The Wolverines are 15-7 on the year. All seven losses have come by four goals or fewer with three coming by one goal. Michigan won by an average of nine goals during the Wolverine Invitational as they won all five of their matchups.
• The offense has been spread around with seven different players recording 10 goals or more. Sophomore Maddy Steere leads the team with 40 goals while juniors Kim Johnson (34) and Julia Sellers (32) are also averaging more than one goal per game. Freshman Maddy Johnston (21) also averages close to a goal per game.
• The U-M defense has only allowed two opponents to score in double figures: Cal (11) and Pacific (10). Eight of Michigan's opponents have been held to five goals or fewer. The team has 264 steals for 12 per game as well as 60 field blocks to go with 155 saves.
• Dr. Marcelo Leonardi is now 92-37 (.713) as the Michigan head coach which includes a 23-1 (.958) record in the CWPA.
• Michigan is ranked No. 9 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings and is No. 9 in the CWPA Women's Varsity Top 25.
• The Wolverines have played against ranked teams in 19 of its 22 games. They have faced four top-five teams and seven top-10 opponents.
• Senior Laura Jimenez leads the team with a .500 shooting percentage (seven goals on 14 shots). Freshman Kathy Rogers is shooting .433 (13 goals, 30 attempts).
• Michigan has used seven different players on the sprint this season with three primarily handling the duties. Sellers has done the sprint the most times, winning 15 of her 35 sprints. U-M's fastest swimmer, Rogers, is 25-7 on the year. Johnston is 10-4 on sprints this year.
• Steere is nine goals away from 100 in her career. Senior Caroline Anderson has 158 career goals, one shy of eighth all-time and four shy of seventh in U-M history. She is also seven points shy of the school record held by Shana Welch and 13 away from becoming the first with 400 career points. Anderson is also nine steals away from fifth on the career list. With three games played this weekend, juniors Johnson and Julia Sellers will have played in 100 career games. Johnson is nine points away from 250 in her career. Â
Opposing Teams
• Brown kicked off its season on Feb. 2 with a loss to Cal Baptist at the Bruno Classic. For the season, the Bears are 5-6 with a 3-1 neutral-site record. They are coming off a 7-5 victory over Siena at the Harvard Invitational.
• No. 17 Princeton is 6-4 on the season after it began its season Feb. 2 against No. 5 Arizona State. The Tigers dropped their first four matches of the season, but have won six straight since they defeated George Washington on Feb. 17; the win streak includes victories over No. 15 Wagner and No. 18 San Jose State.
• No. 13 Hartwick is 14-3 on the year. The Hawks have not played a match at home at Moyer Pool. At neutral sites they are 9-3, while they are 5-0 in away matches. Hartwick opened its season at the Michigan Invitational, during which it defeated No. 24 Marist College. The Hawks enter the matchup against Michigan winning 13 of their last 14 matches, including a victory over No. 10 Indiana University.
