Wolverine Bites
• Senior Brent Noseworthy was recently named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. The Tewaarton Award is given to the top player in the NCAA on an annual basis. Against St. John's, Noseworthy scored two markers to become the programs all-time leading goal scorer with 94. He has also scored at least one point in 32 straight games, the ninth-longest streak in the country.
• Freshman attackman Bryce Clay was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday (March 5). Clay earned the honor after marking his first hat trick as a Wolverine on seven shots, and added a pair of assists in U-M's 16-11 win over St. John's on Saturday (March 2). After missing the Cleveland State game due to injury, Clay has six goals in two games.
• Sophomore attackman Alex Buckanavage (10 goals., eight assists) leads the squad with 18 points and ranks No. 28 nationally in points per game (4.50). He also has scored on 10 of his 18 shots to give him a shooting percentage of 56 percent, ranking No. 8 nationally. Fellow sophomore Kevin Mack (8G, 8A) is second on the team in points, and has 22 assists in 18 games over his U-M career.
• As a whole, U-M's offense boasts five players in double-digit points on the campaign, and ranks No. 8 in the country in points per game with 22 and is No. 8 in assists per game (8.75).
• Michigan is one of three teams with a 3-0 record on the road this season, along with No. 5 Duke and No. 13 High Point.
• In his first full-game as U-M's main faceoff option, junior Matt Dellacroce went 16-of-30 at the dot and collected 12 ground balls in U-M's 16-11 win over St. John's on March 2. The 12 ground ball pickups are the third most in a single game in program history.
• The U-M defense ranks No. 12 in the country in caused turnovers with 10.50 per game. Led by senior longsticks Nick DeCaprio (eight) and Michael Borda (seven), fellow senior shortstick MJ Melillo also boasts four caused turnovers. DeCaprio ranks second in school history in the category with 47, trailing Chase Brown (2013-16) with 66.
• U-M has led after the first quarter in all four of its games this season, and has outscored opponents by a 16-4 margin in the opening quarter.
• Michigan has played in multiple marquee neutral site games since the program's inception, playing contests at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium and Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, in 2013. Most recently in 2016, U-M played Delaware in Costa Mesa, California.
Opponent Preview
Yale
The reigning NCAA Champion No. 4-ranked Bulldogs carry a 2-1 record into the contest, with all three games being decided by one score. Their season began with an 11-10 overtime loss against Villanova (Feb. 16), followed by a 14-13 win over Penn State (Feb. 23) and a 12-11 win over UMass in overtime last Saturday (March 2). The matchup against Michigan will be Yale's first road tilt of the season.
Yale boasts perhaps the best player in the NCAA in faceoff man TD Ierlan, who has won 61-of-82 draws at the dot (74 percent), to go along with 41 ground balls. Both numbers rank No. 2 in the country. The offense is led by Jackson Morrill, who is No. 2 in the NCAA in assists per game (4.00) and eighth in points per game (5.67). All-American close defender Chris Fake leads the defense, but there is a weak spot in goal with Jack Staff ranking 69 of 70 goalies in the country with a save percentage of 39 to go along with 7.33 saves per game, which ranks 65th.
Yale owns a 2-0 record in the all-time series with the Wolverines, winning a matchup in Ann Arbor on April 19, 2014, by a 13-7 margin. Last season in New Haven, Connecticut, U-M hung with the eventual national champs, but Yale eventually pulled away late for a 15-11 win on Feb. 24.
