ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 18th-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday (Sept. 26) at U-M Soccer Stadium. U-M improves to 1-1-2Â in overtime matches on the year and is in the midst of one of the best starts to a season in program history, taking 23 points through 10 contests.
Wisconsin (7-2-1, 2-0-1 Big Ten) began the match on the strong foot, taking three shots over the opening seven minutes. Michigan (7-1-2, 1-0-1 Big Ten) started to settle in during the ensuing minutes, and took a 5-4 lead in the shot category in the 23rd minute, led by a trio of efforts from senior Raleigh Loughman in the opening third.
Michigan bossed the final 30 minutes of the half in terms of pressure and possession, forcing Wisconsin to look to counter. However, Wolverine senior center backs Alia Martin and Sydney Shepherd were up to task, and neither side was able to get on the score sheet.
At the half, Michigan led in the shot category 8-5, but each side only had one shot on goal. Corners were even at 2.
U-M's best chance of the half came in the 77th minute, as junior Dani Wolfe played a ball back at the top of the 18 to senior Nicki Hernandez. She dodged a defender, then shot a bender with her left foot that went narrowly over the crossbar.
