Wolverine Bites
• Junior Josh Zawada and Ryan Cohen were named Big Ten Player and Co-Freshman of the Week for their performances against Bellarmine. The honors are the first of Zawada's and Cohen's careers.
• Michigan enters week two receiving votes in the latest Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and USILA Coaches Poll Poll.
• In the 22-13 win over Bellarmine last Saturday (Feb. 5), Josh Zawada and sophomore Michael Boehm set program records. Zawada ripped off 10 points (five goals, five assists) to set the new program record for points and assists in a single contest. Boehm also eclipsed the previous record of eight points, held by Ian King (2015), with six goals and three assists (nine points). The six goals also tied a school record.
• The Wolverine faceoff unit went 28-of-37 (76 percent), setting a new program record for wins in a contest. Rowlett also led the Wolverines in ground balls with 11 and aided in the team total of 50, also the highest single-game mark in program history.
• Michigan eclipsed the 20-goal mark (22), setting a new program standard for goals in a contest. The last time U-M hit the 20-goal plateau was Feb. 14, 2014, versus Mercer -- a 20-7 victory.
• Nine players scored a goal against the Knights, with three players in graduate student Hakan Atillasoy, Ryan Cohen and Aidan Mulholland scoring the first goals of their careers. Overall, 13 players made their U-M debuts in the contest.
• Sophomore Shane Carr made his first start in goal for the Wolverines, stopping six shots against seven goals allowed. Other notable starters against Bellarmine were senior Zach Johnson, who missed most of the last two seasons due to injury, on close defense. Cohen filled the spot vacated by the injured Bryce Clay, while sophomore Isaac Aronson made his first career start at midfield.
• U-M is 3-1 all-time versus Detroit Mercy, with their last meeting in 2017, a contest that U-M won 15-10. Michigan outshot Detroit 43-35 and dominated at faceoff, going 20-of-29 at the dot.
