In 2017, Elodie Van Dievoet won the program's first medalist honor with a 210 (-6) tally. Prior to her performance, the Wolverines had three individuals finish as the runner-up -- LeAnna Wicks (2002, t-2nd), Ashley Bauer (2010, 283) and Yugene Lee (2012, 2nd).
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan closed the regular season by winning its third event of the season, using an 875 total to put the Wolverines atop the leaderboard at the Indiana Invitational (April 9-10). It was the second team title of the spring after U-M tied with host Florida for the team title at the VyStar Invitational (March 5-6). The Maize and Blue opened the season in record fashion winning the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 13-14).
• Using those three team wins, Michigan tallied six top-two finishes in nine regular-season events. U-M added three runner-up finishes at the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 29-31), the Tulane Classic (Feb. 13-15) and the Briar's Creek Invitational (March 14-15).
• U-M opened the 2021-22 season winning the Wolverine Invitational with a U-M Golf Course women's team record 851 (-1) -- the first sub-par tally at U-M's home course. The 851 tally was the second-lowest team total in program history and crushed the prior U-M Golf Course record by 18 shots -- 869 by USC at the 2007 NCAA Central Regional (May 10-12). The Wolverines had all five starters finish in the top 20 individually, including Mikaela Schulz who tied for medalist honors.
• As a team, U-M has posted a 291.41 team average with nine sub-par team rounds, including a team-low for par 279 (-9) in the second round of the Landfall Tradition and a team-low tally with a 276 (-4) in the third round of the VyStar Gators Invitational. U-M has 13 sub-290 team tallies. The lowest team average in program history was 295.56 (2015-16).
• In addition to the team titles, U-M has had four medalist finishes, three from Ashley Lau giving her a U-M program record of four in her career. After leading U-M in all five spring events, Lau won three of them -- the Tulane Classic (Feb. 13-14), the VyStar Gators Invitational (March 5-6) and the Indiana Invitational (April 9-10). Mikaela Schulz added her second career title at the Wolverine Invitational.
• With her current team-best scoring average of 71.44, Ashley Lau is on pace to smash the U-M record of 73.09 set by Elodie Van Dievoet during the 2016-17 season. Lau leads with 10 sub-par rounds, including a career-low 66 (-6) carded in the final round of the VyStar Gators Invitational. Overall she has eight sub-70 tallies. With those 10 rounds, Lau set the program record with 23 total in her career.
• With her 73.44 scoring average, Hailey Borja is also on pace to set a new U-M single-season standard. She has seven sub-par rounds with a career-low-tying 68 (-4) in the second round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Combined, Borja and Ashley Lau have 17 of U-M's 25 sub-par round tallies this season.
• This season, Michigan has claimed six Big Ten Golfer of the Week accolades. Mikaela Schulz earned U-M's first after she won the Wolverine Invitational with a 210 (-3) tally back in September. Hailey Borja was given the honor after her career-best 210 (-6) tied her for third at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 15-17). Ashley Lau highlighted the year with four honors after tying for medalist honors at the Tulane Classic (Feb. 13-15), using a final round and career-best 66 (-4) to rally and win the VyStar Gators Invitational (March 5-6), posting a closing 70 (-2) to earn a runner-up finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational (March 14-15) and then using a 208 (-8) total to run away with the Indiana Invitational title (April 9-10).
• Ashley Lau was one of 12 women's amateur golfers selected Tuesday (April 19) for the 2022 International Team which will compete against the United States team at the 2022 Palmer Cup (July 1-3) in Cologny, Switzerland and the Golf Club de Genève. In a Ryder Cup-style tournament co-founded by golfing legend Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the prestigious event features 12-member men's and women's squads battling each other for the Palmer Cup.
• Hailey Borja and Ashley Lau were among the 72 participants at the Augusta National Women's Amateur – one of the world's top amateur events. Closing as the top two of six Big Ten golfers in the field, Borja's 147 qualifying total on the Champions Retreat course advanced her to the final round held on the famed Augusta National. Lau tallied a 153 in her two rounds and did not move forward. In the final 18, Borja shot a 74 (+2) on one of the world's most famous courses to tie for 12th with a 221 total.
