Big Ten All-Tournament Team Selections (May 26) -- The University of Michigan baseball team earned two spots on the All-Tournament Team at the Big Ten Tournament, the Conference announced on Sunday night (May 26). U-M was just one of five schools with a selection and just one of three with multiple selections. Will Rogers earned the top pitching spot while Mitch Voit earned the nod at first base. Rogers pitched 8.2 innings in U-M's 4-2 win over Illinois. He had a no-hit bid entering the eighth inning and allowed just five total base runners by the end of the game. He struck out a career-high nine batters, which tied for the third most in the tournament. He also added five hits with a home run at the plate. Voit earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for the second year in a row. He went 8-for-18 with three home runs, a triple, five runs, and six RBI. Among players in the tournament, Voit was tied for second in hits and home runs and third in RBI. He also had 19 total bases which was third in the tournament.
John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Semifinalists (May 14) -- Sophomore Mitch Voit was named as a semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of The Year Award by the College Baseball Foundation. Since 2010, the award honors the top combo pitcher-position player. Voit was one of 21 players to be shortlisted and is now joined by nine other semifinalists. Voit was one of 12 semifinalists last year and is just one of four players to be a semifinalist the last two seasons. This season, Voit leads Michigan the plate with 61 hits and 20 doubles, is second in home runs, total bases, RBIs and third in batting average. On the mound, he is 5-3 with 41 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched. On days he pitches, Voit hitting .333 with a .632 slugging percentage, nine doubles and two home runs. » College Baseball Foundation Release
Big Ten Freshman of The Week (May 13) -- Collin Priest was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time in his career. Priest slashed .545/.583/1.091 over the weekend series win against Purdue. He went 4-for-5 on Saturday including three extra-base hits -- where he set new career highs in hits, doubles and extra-base hits. He added a home run and two runs in the midweek win against Central Michigan. Priest slugged 1.067 over the four-game week with three doubles and two home runs and led the team with seven hits. This is Priest's first Big Ten honor and he is the first U-M freshman to earn the award this season. Three different Wolverines earned the honors last season with Mitch Voit being the last U-M player to receive the honor on May 15, 2023.
John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List (April 23) --Â Sophomore Mitch Voit and junior Will Rogers were named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of The Year Award Watch List by the College Baseball Foundation. The award honors the top combo pitcher-position player and has been awarded since 2010. Voit and Rogers join 21 players on the list with Voit being one of five sophomores and Rogers being one of 10 juniors. U-M is the only program with multiple representatives on the list.
Voit was one of 12 semifinalists for the award last year and was one of two freshmen to make the list. This season, Voit is leading the Wolverines at the plate in hits (50), doubles (18) and RBI (35); from the mound, he leads the Wolverines in innings pitched (62.1) and is the only pitcher on the staff to start every weekend. Rogers has started 23 games behind the plate and has 10 appearances on the mound. This season, he has 25 hits, 24 runs, four homers and and a .336 on-base percentage. Rogers is sixth on the team in innings pitched (28) with two starts and a pair of saves, allowing 18 runs and striking out 24.
Big Ten Pitcher of the Week (April 22) -- Jacob Denner was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Denner pitched nine total innings with 10 strikeouts across three appearances and allowed two runs and six baserunners. He picked up wins against Toledo and Ohio State and earned the save on Friday (April 19) against the Buckeyes. Denner started the week with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in a midweek win against Toledo. He then pitched a combined shutout with Kurt Barr on Friday when he pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed just one baserunner. Denner capped off the weekend with the final 3.2 innings against the Buckeyes to help U-M to its fifth series win in a row. Denner also moved up the career leaderboards and now ranks fourth all-time in career appearances (82), 10th all-time in career innings (254.1), and seventh all-time in strikeouts (244). This is Denner's second Pitcher of the Week honor this season and the third of his career. Denner was the last U-M pitcher to win the award doing so on April 1, and the third U-M pitcher this season joining Barr and Mitch Voit. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Pitcher of the Week (April 1) -- Jacob Denner was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the second time in his career after holding the Terrapins to just one run over 7.2 innings. Denner allowed just six baserunners -- three hits, two walks and one hit by pitch. He struck out a season-high six Maryland batters. He combined with Ricky Kidd to hold Maryland to just one run -- the first time since March 3, 2023, the Terps have only scored just one run. Denner also retired the only batter he faced in the midweek contest against Michigan State. With the two appearances, he now is tied for fourth all-time in career appearances (75) and is ninth all-time in career strikeouts (225). This is Denner's second Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor after he earned the honor on May 8 for a complete-game victory over Minnesota. He is the third U-M pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week honors this season after Mitch Voit earned the honor on March 6 and Kurt Barr earned the honor on March 18. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Pitcher of the Week (March 18) -- Kurt Barr was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career after two strong outings over the week. Barr pitched 11 total innings and allowed just one run and seven hits. He picked up the wins in both of his appearances and struck out seven batters. Barr pitched a career-high six innings in his first appearance of the week against Toledo, holding the Rockets scoreless. He came out of the pen again on Sunday and pitched five innings of one-run baseball against San Diego to earn the win. This is Barr's first Big Ten weekly honor in his career. Big Ten Pitcher of the Week (March 4) -- Mitch Voit was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career after a complete game victory over UCLA. Voit pitched the first complete game of his career -- going the full nine innings, beating his previous career high of 5.2 innings that he set on May 26, 2023, against Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament. Throughout the nine innings, Voit struck out three batters. He allowed only six base runners- with just two walks and four hits. Voit faced the minimum of three batters in five innings and used just 96 pitches over the full nine innings. This is Voit's third Big Ten weekly honor in his career after being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year twice last season. Voit is the first U-M pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week honors this season and the first since Jacob Denner won it last year on May 8. » Big Ten Release
Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award List (Feb. 15) -- Sophomore first baseman/pitcher Mitch Voit was one of 52 players named to the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award List. The award honors the most outstanding offensive baseball player in the country based on athletic performance, personal integrity and academic excellence. Voit earned three Freshman All-America honors and was named th to Big Ten All-Freshman Team last season after hitting seven home runs. He is the first Wolverine to be chosen for the honor since the award expanded nationally in 2020. Voit is one of 16 sophomores on the list and joins Jack Frank (Michigan State), Devin Taylor (Indiana) and Brock Tibbitts (Indiana) as representatives from the Big Ten.
Big Ten Players To Watch (Feb. 14) -- Sophomores Mitch Voit and Jonathan Kim and freshman Dylan Vigue were named Michigan's Big Ten Players to watch.
Voit had a strong freshman season, leading the team in earned-run average (3.25) and was second in home runs with seven. He garnered multiple freshman All-America honors and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team. In the tournament last season, Voit made his first mound start and went 5.2 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out five. He also added six hits and three runs over four games. Voit will shift from third base to first base this season and from the bullpen to the starting rotation.
After a successful first season with the Wolverines, Kim looks to have a strong sophomore campaign. He led the team in batting average last year at .322 and contributed three home runs, 28 RBI and 11 multi-hit games. He played in 44 games, starting in 39 of them. Kim also was an All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection and third team All-Big Ten.
Vigue is one of just three freshmen chosen this season to the Big Ten Players to Watch list and becomes the second freshman to be chosen by head coach Tracy Smith after Voit got the nod last season. Vigue was selected for the Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game after 71 strikeouts in his senior season. He will look to anchor the Michigan rotation this season. » Big Ten Release
