
Boehm Makes History in Michigan's Win Over No. 19 Delaware

NEWARK, Del. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team completed an undefeated spring break trip with a 13-8 win over No. 19 Delaware on Saturday (March 2) at Tubby Raymond Stadium.
Senior Michael Boehm became the second Wolverine in school history to surpass 200 points in a career, assisting on a goal with 1:40 to play in the first quarter. He sits at 203 points (115 goals, 88 assists) and is 10 away from tying the school record of 213.
Both sides came out sluggish, with the first eight-plus minutes scoreless. Michigan (5-1) got on the board first at 7:20 of the first, when Boehm cashed in an unassisted score to kick off the scoring.
Following a 3-0 Delaware (2-2) run, Boehm reached the historical milestone when feeding graduate student Justin Tiernan for an inside finish as the score sat 3-2 Blue Hens after one period of action.
U-M burst out of the gates in the second quarter with a 4-0 run, with junior Ryan Cohen (10:27), Boehm (9:07), Tiernan (7:25) and Cohen (4:57) scoring goals to make it 6-4 Wolverines, following an extra-man goal from the Blue Hens at 2:30 of the contest, the game went to the half with a 6-5 Michigan advantage.
The Wolverines opened the second half with a bang, notching four-straight tallies -- senior Isaac Aronson on a feed from Boehm at 13:46, an unassisted goal from Tiernan at 13:30 for his third of the day, Cohen's third score at 12:48 and another from Tiernan at 8:21 -- that ran U-M's lead to 10-5. Tiernan's fourth came on a feed from Cohen at 8:21 to cap off the 4-0 run that was ended at 7:18 by Delaware's Nick Jessen.
The Wolverines answered when junior Aidan Mulholland marked his first of the day at 6:22 to move the scoreline to 11-6 before Delaware cut it to 11-7 with nine seconds left in the third.
Following a Delaware man-up score at 11:24 to make it a three-goal game at 11-8, Boehm's third with 5:14 to play brought the advantage to 12-8 and ended a 15 minute-plus scoreless streak for the Maize and Blue. Mulholland went on to add his second of the contest on an empty net with 34 seconds left to run the score to the final of 13-8.
U-M was perfect clearing (22-of-22) and held a 32-25 ground-ball advantage in a contest that featured a combined 42 turnovers, 22 of which belonged to the Wolverines.
Senior faceoff man Justin Wietfeldt went 15-of-24 with 14 ground balls at the dot. After struggling in the first half going 5-of-13, he won 10-of-11 in the second half. Sophomore goalie Hunter Taylor stopped 12 shots, with two goals allowed coming on man up.
Graduate student defensive midfielder Beau Pederson notched his first assist in a Wolverine uniform and also contributed two ground balls and a caused turnover, while classmate and close defender Cathal Roberts had five ground balls and two caused turnovers to aid the close defense unit.
The result concludes a three-game road trip for the Wolverines, who will return home for the first time in nearly a month to host No. 20 Harvard on Sunday (March 10) at noon at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
