
Wolverines Fall to No. 6 Buckeyes in Regular-Season Finale

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell to No. 6 Ohio State 10-8 in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon (April 19) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. With the loss, U-M earns the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament and will host fifth-seeded Rutgers in Ann Arbor for a quarterfinal contest next Saturday.Â
The Wolverines defense controlled the game for 55 minutes, forcing double-digit turnovers for the fourth straight outing. Pace Billings matched his season high causing four turnovers, followed by Mason Whitney and Max Bonner, who added a pair of takeaways each.
Cohen stuffed the stat sheet with two caused turnovers, two groundballs, two assists and Michigan's lone first-quarter goal. U-M never trailed by more than two scores with nine first-half saves from Taylor, but Michigan played from behind for nearly two full quarters before the offense was kickstarted late in the third.
Josh Ford connected on a bouncer at the 6:29 mark for his second goal of the season, and Kees van Wees netted a long-pole goal just under two minutes later. Jack Rideout won his third consecutive faceoff, allowing Alex Lobel to put the Wolverines in front 6-5 with 3:26 left in the third.
John Morgan scored the next two goals to cap a 5-0 Michigan run and give the home team an 8-5 lead. The Wolverines could not hold on in the final 12 minutes as the Buckeyes erased the three-goal deficit, putting together a 5-0 run of their own to close out U-M.
Michigan turns its attention to its matchup with Rutgers in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament next Saturday (April 19) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Ticket information and game time are to be announced.
