
U-M Eyes Top-Ranked Irish in South Bend Weekend Road Test

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team (3-4) will continue its road stretch Saturday (March 14), traveling to face top-ranked Notre Dame (5-0) in a noon matchup at Arlotta Stadium in South Bend, Ind. The contest will be broadcast on ACC Network.
Notes
• Michigan will face its fourth consecutive ranked opponent Saturday at No. 1 Notre Dame and its second straight top-five matchup, as the Fighting Irish currently hold the top ranking in the nation.
• Michigan enters the weekend with a 3-4 record following a road loss at No. 5 Harvard.
• Harvard opened with two early goals, but the Wolverines answered to keep the game within reach and trailed 4-2 entering the second quarter.  Michigan surged ahead after the break with three consecutive goals from Alex Gatto, Kade Goldberg and Carson Billig to take a 5-4 lead. The Crimson regained control later in the contest, however, pulling away after outscoring the Wolverines the rest of the way.
• Nick Roode paces the Wolverines offensively with 25 points on 22 goals and three assists. The junior attacker has scored at least two goals in all seven games this season and opened the 2026 campaign with five consecutive hat tricks. Roode posted five goals against Marquette and most recently added two against No. 5 Harvard.
• Freshmen Luke Shannehan and Tay Rodriguez have made a name for themselves quickly in collegiate lacrosse. Shannehan ranks second on the team in points with 24, including 17 goals and seven assists. The attacker has recorded three hat tricks and has four multi-goal games through the first seven games of the season, with a career-best five goals on two occasions. Shannehan leads Michigan with his seven assists and has two games with two helpers.
• Rodriguez leads the Michigan faceoff with 46 wins and has a .517 faceoff percentage through seven games. The freshman also has a team-high 28 ground balls, has scored one goal and has one assist.
• Earlier this season, Michigan outscored Marquette in all four quarters in a week two contest. Roode paced the Wolverines, tying his career high with five goals, while junior CJ Reilly added two scores. The quartet of Gatto, Goldberg, Jack Jenkins and Bo Lockwood each recorded two assists, with Gatto and Goldberg also adding goals for the Maize and Blue. Goals from Goldberg and Michael Kelly marked the first of their Michigan careers.
• Michigan set a program record to open the 2026 season as it scored 24 goals against Mercyhurst. The Wolverines broke the previous program record of 23 goals in a single game set on Feb. 22, 2022, against Canisius. U-M went on a 14-1 run to open the game and finished with another 10-straight goals in the decisive victory.
• U-M will open Big Ten Conference play Saturday (March 21) when it travels to Baltimore, Md., for a noon game against Johns Hopkins.
