ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell to No. 18-ranked Johns Hopkins, 14-8, on Saturday (March 30) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium in the Big Ten opener for both teams.
Senior goalie Gunner Garn earned his first career start, and made 15 saves in cage – with eight coming in the first half.
Michigan (3-6, 0-1 Big Ten) got on the board first with a marker from senior Decker Curran at the 13:08 mark of the opening quarter, and led 5-3 at the end of the first stanza. Curran's goal was followed by an unassisted goal from sophomore Kevin Mack with 31 seconds left in the quarter.
From that point on, Johns Hopkins (5-4, 1-0 Big Ten) held U-M scoreless for more than 30 minutes, going on a 10-0 run that gave the Blue Jays a 13-5 lead with 1:12 to play in the third.
Junior Avery Myers put an end to the Blue Jay run with an unassisted score at 13:40 of the fourth, with U-M outscoring Hopkins 3-1 in the final stanza.
Curran and Myers led the U-M offense with a pair of scores, while senior Brent Noseworthy scored one goal on two shots as he returned to the U-M lineup in a limited capacity after missing the last three games due to injury.
Michigan was called for eight penalties that turned into four Johns Hopkins goals. Three of Forry Smith's game-high four goals for the Blue Jays came via man-up situations.

The Wolverines will next embark on their first Big Ten road contest, taking on the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, April 6 in College Park. Faceoff is slated for 2 p.m., with the matchup to be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
