The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team hits the road for a Big Ten Conference matchup against No. 2-ranked Maryland on Saturday (April 6) at 2 p.m. in College Park. The contest will be broadcast nationally on Big Ten Network with Joe Beninati and Mark Dixon on the call.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan head coach Kevin Conry, now in his second season with the Wolverines, returns to College Park for the first time since leaving Maryland to come to Michigan. He spent five seasons (2013-17) as the defensive coordinator/associate head coach for the Terrapins. He departed for Ann Arbor after helping lead Maryland to the 2017 NCAA National Championship.
• Three of the next four opponents in conference play are ranked in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) top 10, with Maryland (April 6) checking in at No. 2, Penn State (April 13) at No. 1 and Ohio State (April 26) at No. 7. Additionally, Rutgers (April 20) is ranked No. 19. The combined record of Michigan's Big Ten Conference opponents is 34-12.
• Senior Decker Curran set a career best for assists in a season with 10 after recording one in the team's last outing against Johns Hopkins (March 30). He enters the weekend with 94 points in his career and is looking to become the fourth Wolverine to reach the 100-point plateau.
• Sophomore Alex Buckanavage leads U-M in points (35) and points-per-game (3.89) this season to rank sixth in the Big Ten. His 35 points rank sixth in program history, 14 shy of U-M's program record of 48, held by teammate senior Brent Noseworthy.
• Michigan's man-down unit ranks No. 13 nationally, allowing opponents to convert on only 27 percent of their EMO chances. With nine goals allowed, U-M has allowed the ninth-fewest man-down goals in the country.
• U-M's offense boasts six players with double-digit points and ranks No. 22 in the country in points-per-game with 19 a contest. Michigan's extra-man unit has converted 14 extra-man goals, which is tied for the sixth most in the country. Curran leads the team in EMO goals with four. The Michigan offense has scored 107 goals on 331 shots (32.3 percent) to rank ninth in the shot-percentage category.
• U-M has outscored opponents, 31-23, the first quarter, and are 3-1 in contests when leading at halftime.
• With a rash of injuries at the faceoff position, Michigan has gone 45-of-143 (31.5 percent) at the dot over the last four games. U-M has utilized six different players at the dot over that span. U-M is 2-1 in contests this season when winning the faceoff battle.
• The U-M offense has accounted for 54 goals over the past four games despite the struggles at the 'X'. Michigan is scoring 1.2 goals per faceoff won and rank No. 17 in offensive efficiency.
• Brent Noseworthy, who returned to the lineup after missing three games due to injury, notched a goal on two shots against Johns Hopkins. He has scored at least one point in 34 straight games, the 10th-longest streak in the country. He also is five goals away from becoming the first Wolverine in program history to hit the 100-goal mark in a career.
