ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell to the top team in the nation, the No. 1 Maryland Terrapins, by a 20-12 score on Saturday (April 2) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Freshman Ryan Cohen led the U-M offense with a career-highs four goals and tied his best with five points, while sophomore Isaac Aronson had a career-best three scores.
Michigan (7-4, 0-2 B1G) notched the first goal of the game from Cohen, marking the only time this season Maryland (9-0, 2-0 B1G) has seen an opponent get on the board first. Junior Josh Zawada scored U-M's second at the 6:19Â mark, but the Wolverines finished the first quarter trailing 3-2.
Aronson started the second quarter strong, scoring his first of two goals in the period at the 8:05 mark. Classmate Michael Boehm followed up, bringing it to 8-5 with 2:41 left. However, Michigan ended the half trailing 9-5.
Coming out of the half, the Terrapins scored three straight to stretch the lead to 13-5. Michigan answered with scores from Cohen (twice) and Zawada to creep back to a five-goal deficit at the 6:40 mark in the third, but the Terps went on another 3-0 run to close the quarter leading 16-9.
Following a Terps marker early in the fourth, Aronson tallied his third of the day with 7:38Â left to bring it to 18-10 Maryland, and Michigan eventually fell by a 20-12 scoreline.
Maryland was led offensively by Logan Wisnauskas, Keegan Khan and Jonathan Donville, all of whom scored hat tricks on the afternoon, while Wisnauskas and Khan also marked a trio of helpers. Owen Murphy also marked four scores.
Sophomore Shane Carr totaled 13 stops in goal, while senior Nick Rowlett win 15-of-29 at the dot with 11 ground balls.
Next up, U-M hits the road to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday (April 8) at 6 p.m. The contest will be broadcast nationally via ESPNU.
